| The North Carolina Tarheel Militia Home Guard |
The Tarheel Militia Home Guard sector of the Yadkin Valley Confederate Heritage Association will be representing the Home Guard units from the counties of the Yadkin Valley, namely those of the 72nd thru the 75th NC Senior Guard. These units were made up chiefly of elderly gentlemen, who because of age, disabilities, etc. Were unable to keep up with the harsh, rigorous, and physically demanding everyday life of the soldiers of the regular Army, but still wanting to contribute to the cause , they joined various County units of Home Guards that had been appointed by the Governor of North Carolina. They would stay behind to perform policing duties, rounding up deserters to be sent back to the front, curving Union Loyalists activities, and as a last line of defense should their home counties come under enemy attack. Acting in much the same manner as our present day National Guard. The reenactivated Tarheel Militia, much the same as yesteryear, will be made up of many veteran reenactors whom of which have honored their ancestors in years past by portraying them on the “Field of Honor” but for various reasons wish now to stay a little closer to home performing Color Guard duties, Living History programs and supporting various Confederate Memorial societies such as the SCV and the UDC when the call arises. Those who wish to become a member of the Tarheel Militia Home Guard may also participate in battle reenactments with our sister unit , the 38th NCT (who will be attending many of the 4th Regiment ANV commemorative battle events) as long as they attend the required drills before the event. The Tarheel Militia Home Guard would be honored, to have you come join our ranks in commemorating North Carolina’s Native Sons and Daughters, who gave their all during the War Between the States. Come be apart of keeping our Southern Heritage alive ! captain Ricky Meadows Commanding 38thNCT/Tarheel Militia Home Guard |

| THE OLD NORTH STATE Carolina! Carolina! heaven's blessings attend her,While we live we will cherish, protect and defend her,Tho' the scorner may sneer at and witlings defame her,Still our hearts swell with gladness whenever we name her.Hurrah! Hurrah! the Old North State forever,Hurrah! Hurrah! the good Old North State. Tho' she envies not others, their merited glory,Say whose name stands the foremost, in liberty's story,Tho' too true to herself e'er to crouch to oppression, Who can yield to just rule a more loyal submission.Hurrah! Hurrah! the Old North State forever,Hurrah! Hurrah! the good Old North State. Then let all those who love us, love the land that we live in,As happy a region as on this side of heaven,Where plenty and peace, love and joy smile before us,Raise aloud, raise together the heart thrilling chorus.Hurrah! Hurrah! the Old North State forever,Hurrah! Hurrah! the good Old North State. |
